The Department of Public Works provides for the operation and maintenance of Manchester's public parks, cemeteries, streets, sidewalks, traffic signals/signs, buildings, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, as well as solid waste collections. In addiition, the Department of Public Works is responsible for the city's recreational facilities and related programming, and assists the schools with property and building maintenance.
