Department of Public Works
Department of Public Works

Our talented, dedicated staff is responsible for providing maintenance, environmental compliance, and capital improvements for 75 facilities consisting of 28 school buildings, 8 school portable classrooms, 3 athletic field houses, and 36 municipal buildings.

The Facilities Division strives to provide proactive building maintenance and construction services for the City to fulfill its public mission to its residents.

Division Responsibility

The Facilities Division is a service-oriented organization. It is organized into three main groups, Custodial, Maintenance, and Construction.

The Custodial group is responsible for custodial, grounds maintenance, and pest control.

The Maintenance group is the core that keeps our City buildings operational day to day. They are skilled in maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, plumbing, air conditioning, and electrical systems. A key focus is routine inspection and maintenance of Life Safety systems. These include sprinklers, electric generators, and egress maintenance that provide a safe environment for City employees, students, teachers, and the citizens of Manchester.

The Construction group is responsible for coordinating and administering major capital improvement contracts of City buildings and planning for future needs. This team spends a considerable amount of time on regulatory compliance. The City has a myriad of regulations that need to be managed; they include AHERA, underground storage tank inspections and building code compliance.
