Sponsored by the City of Manchester’s Quality Council
In April 2002, Bob Powers, a caseworker in the Welfare Department, died tragically as the result of an accident in his home. Bob was highly regarded by staff and clients alike. He had worked as a caseworker in the department for over 24 years and had an “Irishman’s” heart of gold. Shortly after Bob’s death, the department renamed the pantry in his honor. Gene Mackie became the pantry’s project coordinator.
The expanded pantry has proved to be a huge success thanks to Gene, Central High School, St. Anselm College, and city employees. Through their efforts, the pantry is able to provide food and personal hygiene products to people in need.
