Henry J. Pariseau, Jr. was Mayor of Manchester for only five months. He died of a heart attack on May 30, 1970 at the age of fifty-two. The first child of Henry J. and Margaret Connolly Pariseau, he was born in Manchester on April 1, 1918. Employed by Auclair Trucking, he worked his way up from errand boy, to president, to chairman of the Board. He also owned and served as president of two other businesses: P & S Leasing and Atlas Warehouse.

Pariseau served as Fire Commissioner from 1962 to 1970. During his short time as Mayor, he was instrumental in obtaining fire fighting apparatus for the city. Concern for the environment led to his involvement in the Urban Beautification project, designed to create a pollution-free environment.

Mayor Pariseau was president of the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul and the New Hampshire Truck Owner's Association. He was a founding member of the 100 Club of New Hampshire and was active in the Pine Haven Home for Boys.

Scope and Content

The Pariseau papers consist of correspondence with a small amount of reports, invitations and publicity notices. There is an inventory of the Natural, Scenic and Historic Areas in Hillsborough County. The Manchester Planning Board files contain material on the Cohas Brook Swamp and a copy of the Urban Beautification Program. The Model City files are extensive and include material on the Community Guidance Center, the National League of Cities and the Model City Youth Programs. The files all end abruptly with the untimely death of Mayor Pariseau.

The Pariseau collection is arranged alphabetically by subject and then chronologically within each folder.
