City-approved trash and recycle carts are mandatory for municipal collection. They may be purchased at the Manchester Drop-Off Facility, through our secure online ordering system, or through a retailer that sells city-approved carts. If you need to confirm whether a cart is city-approved, please email the Department of Public Works. Carts are owned by residents or property owners, not the City of Manchester. As such, the city is not responsible for lost or stolen carts.

How to Replace Broken Carts
All trash carts come with a limited, 10-year manufacturer’s warranty if the cart is broken beyond repair. Lids and wheels may be replaced at no cost, so long as there is no structural damage to the cart preventing the repair.
How to Determine if Cart is Under Warranty
If Cart is Under Warranty
- Bring the broken trash cart to the Manchester Drop Off Facility for a free replacement (any permitted trash inside will not be charged).
- If unable to transport, pay a $10 fee for delivery and removal.
- In order for the replacement cart to be provided at no cost, the cart must be received by the Manchester Drop Off Facility (so that the item can be returned to the manufacturer).
If Cart is Not Under Warranty
If Lid or Wheel is Broken and Repairable
- In order to determine if the cart may be repairable, DPW personnel must be able to see the damage. This can be done by bringing the broken cart to the Manchester Drop Off Facility where an employee can inspect the damage.
- Bring the cart to the Manchester Drop Off Facility for on-site repair.
- If determined repairable and the cart is not brought to the site, staff may provide you with the parts for you to make the repair.
- If you’d like staff to repair the cart at your property, a payment of $10 must be made to the Manchester Drop Off Facility. Staff will then repair the cart in the field at their earliest convenience.
